Am at uni, nearly end of second year but I'm determined for the uni to have a RC by the time I graduate.

Beginning to approach local yards regarding costs etc so am interested to see what they're like elsewhere. Am also googling for RC websites as well

Hi, I am on the commitee for our university riding club at Nottingham Trent.

We get subsidising from the university and have therefore managed to get our riding lesson prices right down to £12.

We have to pay per year to get a sports membership but the system hasnt worked too well this year for us but hopefully will next year more so. We get money to subsidise riding lessons each week and then on top of that quite a substancial amout for us to have team training for BUSA and to host competitions which can be quite costly.

Also, we are starting to play horseball as well but we put that down as usual riding lessons.

We get sponsorship from local bars and pubs as well.

What university are you at?

We pay £13 for 45mins (normal price is £18) at a BHS approved yard. Usually 4 or 5 riders in each group. I'm the lesson convenor for my uni riding club if you want any more info

AH OK... I am surprised there isnt a club already! Still I think the club at NTU hasnt been running too long. I am sure you will have loads of people who would be interested in helping you set it up!!

We have worked quite hard getting money back from the uni this year and have got two pubs and a bar to sponsor us. Get onto your uni and demand some cash lol

We've been to 4 different places since I've been at uni (I've been here 6 years and on the committee for 4, so feel like a bit of an old codger!). When I started it was £13 a lesson, but has increased to £17 for a 1hr lesson with BHSII with a maximum of 6 in a group. We have team training at a private yard for £13 for a hour and a half with a unqualified but experienced instructor with 3-4 per group.

The uni won't subsidise lessons and haven't given us any money to run the club on this year, so we've relied on people's initial subscriptions to run our BUSA competitions. How supportive your union is financially usually depends on the type of people running it and how big the club is.

We pay £10 for about an hour. Group depends on who goes but can be anything from 2 to 8. I hate where we go, but they are able to hold our competitions but we are looking for somewhere else. Speaking to other people at BUSA comps they were paying a lot more than us. Edinburgh pay about £18 and thats with the uni subsidising it by £5.

Think ours (with the yard we've got in mind) is going to be between £15 and £20

Less if we can get them subsidised by the university

Is that on your own horse or a school horse?

Ours was heavily subsidised by the university, how much funding we got depended on our results, but thankfully we did quite well so always got maximum funding.

This is now going back 5/6 yrs but off the top of my head I think we paid £120 a year all inclusive.

This covered a minimum of 8 club lessons (max 6 people with a BHSII) although more often than not you could ride far more if you wanted.

Also included was a minimum of one friendly competition team place.

All transport to and from the stables included.

Home BUSA match was funded plus tansport to all league/semis and finals

Then if you were selected for the BUSA team or as one of the 2 reserves there were an additional 6 training sessions with Jenny Ward who is about as qualified as you can find!

We had money left over at the end of the year which then subsidised the annual AGM (aka piss up!)
