Hi all,
Further to all the other posts about unmolassed chaff in the South, I have found a stockist of Honeychop Oat Straw chaff. It's B & J Dance in Swallowfield, Reading, Berks and he's going to order a couple of bags in for the weekend. (He was down as a stockist on the Mollichaff website but had never heard of it). So if anyone wants to order a bag, give him a ring and he'll get it for you. A very nice man!

Seems to me that the horse feed manufacturers need to wake up and realise more and more people want simple products available.

I was looking for hay chaff recently and spoke at length with my feed supplier who in turn contacted Bones (wholesale equine, pet and zoo feed supplier to the South West of England) and they didn't have a clue about unmolassed chaff. No idea what it was or where to obtain it. I was pointed towards Readigrass - which is not at all what I was after. In the end I found Halley's in Scotland (online) and have bought a couple of bags via them. Certainly not the cheapest option but what can you do when none of the local feed suppliers can get in what you're after?

It's a pain. But well done OP for finding someone local to you that's able to (a) Find the product! and, (b) is willing to buy it in for you!

Hi OP, if you ever encounter problems getting the unmollassed chaff, Total Equestrian in Beenham do it for about £6ish too. I get my micronised linseed from there.

Do you know where they obtain the unmolassed chaff? People on here say it comes in a plain white sack but this isn't enough info for my suppliers down here to source it. If anyone knows exactly where the product is made and by who, I'd really appreciate finding out so I can get my stockists down here to find it for me. Thanks :)

Bring back the days of every yard having a chaff cutter!! At least then we knew what we were feeding and it wasn't coated in molasses or sprayed with sugar!

To that end we have modified the garden shredder and we are now making our own chaff again.

I've just noticed that Baileys now do a chaff with no added molasses or sugar. http://www.baileyshorsefeeds.co.uk/whatproduct/chaffs/blc.htm. I was also looking for an unmolassed chaff but one that was preservative free aswell. I'm not sure if the light chaff is preservative free and will be e-mailing them to ask next week. I ordered Baileys golden chaff once thinking it was preservative free (as preservatives weren't listed on the website in the ingredients) and was very disappointed when it arrived with preservatives added! Not sure if maybe chaffs need preservatives as they seem to be in all the ones I've had so far. I'm also tring to get my mare back to a more basic diet after her recent COPD diagnosis and also the feeling she may have other allergies going on.
