New farrier, been once before, and phoned him up 3 weeks ago for him to come out again to have my horses shod. He said he couldn't do it for a few weeks so we arranged a date and time for in a few weeks time. He phones me up on the day 2 hours before he was meant to be arriving to say he was stuck for time and could we make it for thursday (last thurs) so i said ok (i then phoned him up 48hours before he was meant to be coming to say that i would have to work as someone was off on sick leave) and he said ok he'd be there friday instead at 6-6.30pm. I got all the horses in, picked out feet, etc ready for him and waited in the freezing cold for him until 7:15ish and still no sign of him! I didnt ring him as i thought he should atleast phone me to say he's sorry he's forgotten! With still no phone call by this afternoon, i phoned him twice but no answer and then he switched his phone off! I don't know if he's pissed off as i changed the day but then he changed our original day/time or if he just did forget and feels bad? But people i know who use him say he's very reliable and always turns up on time and he writes everything in his diary with my address, number etc. I've tried other farriers but they are not taking on any more work!! What would you do?

I'd give him one more chance then try to get another farrier.

I've been through this & ended up permanently having a shoe off cos he'd miss appts 3 weeks in a row, so mine would go 9 weeks between shoeings. Not to mention all the lost holiday from work.

Got a fab ex Army one now who is on time or early.

Agree with Catembi - one more strike and he's out! Went through this with a farrier some time ago - he would make appointments, be very, very late or not turn up at all. He said he was going through lots of personal stuff, so I gave him benefit of the doubt. Turns out he was just a lying, unreliable, arrogant b****rd who made out he knew much more than he did. Everything came to a head when he kicked my mare in the stomach

. I found a new farrier who is absolutely fab - the best I've ever had - he is always on time, phones the night before appointments to see how many/what needs doing and is absolutely brilliant. I think you will have to start looking for another farrier sooner rather than later.

mine is not a great time keeper sometime he dont show at all, i could smell he had been drinking the last time he came now i have a new farrier thank god
