we moved yards a month ago and Daisy has settled in general but is very stressy on the yard and in the box in particular. She constantly box walks, squeals and broncs in the stable and will eat almost nothing. If I leave her all night she must settle because the hay is eaten in the morning but she's terrible when i'm there. She very rarely stays in at night but she may need to later on in the winter.

Trying to groom her or tack her up in the stable takes three times as long as it ought to because she is constantly walking in circles. You can't tie her up because she goes mad and pulls back.

Its worst when someone else's horse moves on the yard. as soon as she hears hooves on the yard she goes loopy.

I don't understand why she is like this here, its getting no better, if anything worse. at our last yard she was fine in sthe stable, got excited at feed time like any horse but would happily just stand while you went backwards and forwards doing things. I've tried giving her toys and things in her stable but she gets so fretted that she ignores them.

she can see the other horses because the stable has bars on the side walls rather than being solid. Its not that she's stressed about her neighbours though because the stables on either side of her are empty.

Her new stable is much bigger and more open than her old one as that had solid walls, I kind of wonder if she feels abit agoraphobic but I've never heard of a horse having this and she's happy in her field or being ridden

My mare was pretty much the same after i moved her....bar i could tie her up and she was ok. She also got really stressed whenever she heard horses on the yard or people moving around. She would be ok tied up me grooming her if there was no one else in but as soon as she heard another horse she became really unsettled. What sorted her out was when they started coming in for the winter. Once she had spent a few nights in she is so much more settled. She loves her stable now and isn't bothered with horses moving around the yard.

If your horse is going to be coming in over the winter she may well settle when she is in a routine etc. She also may just be that she needs more time to settle.

my horse still gets stressed in her stable. she is in now and most mornings she's chilled until she hears our car and then goes mad! if i ride her before i turn her out she goes mad when i'm tacking her up and brushing her.

i had to move to a different stable so she could see everything going on because she got her legs over the door of her old one because she was so stressed!

maybe if she gets into more of a routine she might chill a little, my mare is much more chilled in her stable (except mornings) now she has a routine!
hope she gets better, i'm sure she will soon!

Dont stress I had exactly the same thing with my mare, she gradually got better and better and after 6 months is completely back to normal.

When she does the box walking etc do not give her any attention , ignore her, the more you look at her or fuss around her the worse she will be.

You could try a stable mirror but I found she settled in her own time, its just a bit traumatic for them moving home!

My boy was happy in his box at out old yard but as soon as we moved he became unsettled and fidgety unless his friend was next door. We're having to do a period of box rest and I was worried about him settling but he has gradually got used to it. He is more unsettled when I'm about but apparently perfectly happy when I'm not. Judging from the amount of hay he eats, he's obviously fine.
Maybe leave your mare to settle for short periods without you. Someone else on the yard could tell you what she's like when you're not there. You might find she's stressing less when she can't see you.
