Unsure of which pieces of tack to use?

When at home, just schooling, hacking and jumping my little mare currently wears no noseband, as before with both a cavesson and flash attachment she would become stroppy! This 'less is more' system has worked for a while but now she is becoming strong. Not strong as in I can't hold her back but strong as in she throws her head into the air and won't come onto the bridle when I do give the correct aids. However, when she feels like she is on best behaviour and school beautifully! I have tried both draw reins (correctly and properly) and also a harbridge. Both help a tad but I don't like to be reliant on such aids when I do hope to school her properly and do some dressage, any suggestions? Thank you

I would take time to make sure there isn't a pain issue - especially teeth and back. If alls well, you could try a market harborough martingale for schooling/jumping. If correctly adjusted, it only comes into play when horse throws up it's head up and doesn't require a noseband. A very under rated piece of tack but you must adjust it correctly and not have it too tight. Obviously not dressage legal.

If the nosebands have made her stroppy in the past I wonder if a Micklem bridle might help? I've never tried one myself but it's supposed to help horses who aren't suited to standard bridles.
