I posted a week or so ago to ask what to do with my 14.2 14 year old welsh mare - I am struggling to afford her now and am going to uni in september so feel I should be doing something about it sooner rather than later.

I'm going to put up an ad in the local horsey shops and put an ad on horsemart advertising for either a part or full loan. Are people interested in full loans if I stipulate that she has to remain on same yard (herd too many horror stories!) or not really? I am willing to pay a percentage of her keep to remain in the loop and maybe do her one day a week....am I sounding to obsessive owner if this goes on the ad?!

I have drafted a little something so if you wanna see and check it for me I can post....just didn't want to put it on opening post as it's definatly not advertising and all I want is advice!

Any help or experiences of loaning welcome.

P.S I'm not selling under any circumstances and cannot afford to take her to uni with me...I've checked and checked again :(

You may well find someone who would keep her at the same yard but it would be harder as you would be choosing from a more limited pool of people. However, you might be able to open things up a bit if you considered allowing her to move a a trusted local livery yard or two.

I once looked at a loan and that was either to stay where it was or to go on livery at the yard where I was having lessons. The owner knew the yard and knew there was reasonable supervision/assistance so her horse would be well cared for.

Get your adverts out and see who comes forward.

As well as advertising speak to any local instructors, yard owners, riding club secretaries etc. Most people I know have found loans/part loans by word of mouth not by answering adverts. You are more likely to get someone genuine that way too!

The one I mentioned above, was an owner who mentioned that she was considering loaning to the owner of the riding school I ride at, she knew my share was likely to come to an end soon as the horse was advertised for sale and thought the horse would suit me.
