i am currently at college but i finish this summer, i am going away for the summer but wanted to spend 6 months from september bringing on a horse.

i have been riding forever but i haven't owned a horse in years, i've been loaning horses since then and i love it! but its never the same as having you own! what i was thinking about was buying a pony/small horse, like 14-15 HH about 5 or 6 yo and working really hard for 6 months so it's ready for the following spring. this might sound completely crazy! and if it does please tell me! but there are so many young ponies out there which just aren't getting the attention they need and i think i can get one in a good position to go onto a really good pony club home or something.

That doesn't sound silly at all! Providing you have the time and are experienced enough, then there is no reason why not. I myself, have recently bought a young mare to bring on and sell. :)
 
well im not going to have anything to do for 6 months and i can see the time easily slipping away to going out at nigh and sleeping all day! so i really want a project. i love young horses and problem horses, i love the challenge! so i think it will be a lot of fun :)
 
It is a fun thing to do and a great idea, i have bought on and sold a mare and i school alot of ponies for selling. The problem is, it can be difficult to sell at the moment. You need to think really carefully about how you're going to do it.
Are you looking to buy at a sales or from someone, how much do you want to spend on the horse, how long are you aiming to keep the horse, how much will it cost, can you afford to keep the horse if you cant sell in your chosen time frame?? etc.
Also, trying not to get any kind of attachment is a hard one. Dont get attached or you wont ever sell the horse! haha. You have to think of them as a project rather than your horse.
It is a fun thing to do, definately, but just take into consideration all these things. You arent being silly!

yeah that was my main issue, but i know someone who owns a yard specifically for doing this so if i couldnt sell she would take him on to sell and she doesnt charge very much, mostly just the cost of keeping. i was planning on spending about £2000, keeping it for 6 months, which should cost me £2000 plus any competitions i do, and im not planning on making any money out of it, just for fun. yeah that would be a shame!
