I was picking up a pony from the vets today and saw a horse being loaded with brand markings i’ve never seen before. They were numbers both sides of his tail. Is this UK or foreign branding?

My Criollo has a brand on his shoulder and a very faint (McDonalds) M on his neck.

Not to hijack your post but when I was very young there used to be a horse on the yard 16.2hh bay gelding, apparently used to do graded showjumping had a brand mark I still have never seen to this day, can anyone shed any light? I will see if I have a clear enough picture of him and zoom in but I remember it being circle and looking almost like a wagon wheel, no numbers or letters.

I have seen this for a variety of horses in the US. On many ranches the stallion was represented on the left side, the year of birth on the right. Often they had the ranch brand on the shoulder too, so not necessarily breed dependent.

Interesting! I rode at a yard for a while that had a lesson program and also a sales/dealer type thing, mainly ranch horses (from out West), but that was a longgg time ago so my memory isn't exactly clear.

My share horse has a brand on his quarters on one side and on his neck the other side, he’s Portuguese if that’s helpful
