Hi,

I have a 13 month old yearling who has these splint like bony bumps on both her upper frontlegs, anyone have any experience with these? Are they splints? She is sound and vet will be out to do vaccinations in a few weeks.

Thank you

A friend's three year old had them two years back and I started a thread about them. Hers were hot. Vet said not to worry about them. I think they are growth plates.

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated. I have been searching google images and whatnot and have seen other horses with them. Wondered if it was caused by a kick or something but thought unlikely she'd have them both sides.

Yes, one of mine had a similar bump as a 3yo. It disappeared after a few months. Vet said could have been the result of a knock, or could have just been an odd growing pattern. Horse has always been sound and has never had any other issues with that leg. It was slightly warm at the time though.

So that was in 2017? If I'm right? Did anthing come of them? Is the horse ridden and doing ok? Thanks again

The horse is fantastic, but very much a five year old of two halves, with the front a much smaller horse than the back. We're hoping she will even up!

But the bumps, which were equal both sides, cooled off and never caused any problems that are showing at the moment. They were seen by a vet and he said not to worry.

Your horse is nicely slim, I think you would probably be given the same advice, but you could give your vet a ring if you're unsure.
