Thought i'd ask on here if anyone else has a pony/horse that is as silly as mine.
Bramble, my section A has her own set of stretches that she does every single day, they are that frequent I now call them by names.. Sad, I know!
Her first and most common is the 'Ballet' stretch, this is where she will take a back leg and stretch it out straight behind her pointing her hoof, she'll then swop legs and repeat. Another common leg stretch is the 'Scraping my hoof with hoof oil on my other leg' stretch, i'm sure most horses do this at some point though.
The next stretch is the 'Chin tuck' stretch which usually happens after lying down (another thing that she does allll the time). She gets up, tucks her chin right into her chest, arches her neck and makes a satisfying sigh whilst closing her eyes.
Her rarest, funniest and weirdest stretch of all is the 'Cat' stretch. I didn't think any horse would ever bother doing it, maybe lots do but i've only seen Bramble do it. She literally walks her front legs forward, sticks them out straight and bows down with her chest touching the floor, like a cat or dog does. I wish I had pictures of all the stretches but i'm yet to catch her in the act.
Anyone elses horses do silly things like this?

Yep! :D My mare does the cat stretch most mornings after breakfast! Usually accompanied by a nice grunt :D She also does the hind leg stretches voluntarily some mornings.

I used to have a mare that would do a cat stretch when you tacked her up - I would lift the leg to pull it forward and she would take it away from me, set herself up and do a cat stretch. She frightened the life out of me the first time she did it.

my boy is like a gymnast when it comes to scratching againt the wall. he crossed his front legs with his head nearly between his knees. all his weight on one front leg while the other was barely touching the floor, looked like he was going to fall over but he managed it!

our barn floor still has scratches from where he stretched so far that when he pulled back he left four marks from the ends of his shoes

another odd thing he does, crosses his front legs when going for a wee XD apparently a really common welsh D thing, a friends D does the same when bored, crossing one foot infront of the other again and again and again, stretching forward

My Sec A does all the same stretches as yours, every day!

She can also roll in a very odd way..if she doesn't roll right over, she will sit up on her bottom and walk her front legs across each other until her bottom pivots and flops onto the other side, then lays down and rolls on that side.

If the water trough is iced over in winter, she lifts up a front foot and punches the ice with it to break it.

She has no respect for electric tape, if she can't jump it, she'll limbo under it!
