…. Rest in Peace Joe.

Bought from a Welsh hill farm at 9 months, with all the assurances that he would one day win the Nationals …. :D Though Joe had the enthusiasm and drive of a pup, he had no outrun, no lift and no gather. For 14 years every single mile that I went to sheep I walked every single mile with him.

In short, he was next door to hopeless except that he had one saving grace …. at the pen he was magical and NOTHING ever got the better of him, including horned tups. He would guard the car and God help anyone who doubted that he meant what he said.

Last week I sold the last of my sheep and there was little left for him to do. He's currently laying curled up under the oak tree and tomorrow I shall dig a hole and bury him.

There are times when I bloody 'ates dawgs and how they get inside me. RIP Old Man. xx

Sorry to read this, they just get under your skin and when they leave there are holes which won't heal.
I said goodbye to my old girl last Saturday, am still waiting for the first day I don't cry; should be tougher at 50!

Alec I'm so sorry...my dad retired from sheep a couple of years ago and when his border collie died he was heartbroken...it took him a half a day and a full bottle of whisky to dig the hole and bury him. My mother commented it would only take half a bottle to "plant" her....

Ya soppy old git! I'll raise a toast to Joe for you tonight Alec. I'm sure he had a great life and an easy end.

PS I cried cos I sold a bloody horse today. These animals!!

I am sorry for your loss Alec.

I just read your post to OH. We bot shed a tear and raised a glass.

To Joe.

I like the quote from Rumtytum...

Joe did what he could and what he could do he did really well.

Yes, and I like it too, I suspect that that dog and I were rather similar, there were never doubts or half measures! :D

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts.

Alec.

So sorry to read about Joe, Alec and realise that you are the same as the rest of us dog lovers. They find a way into our heart and they never stay long enough.

Sorry to hear the passing of a special one Alec, I have indeed found over the years that some animals do find a more special place in our beings than others and we have a more unique connection with them. X
