Yesterday I went into labout at 35 weeks. Luckily they managed to stop the contractions, but he is engaged and could come any time.

My horse was sold and due to be collected in the morning. The buyers has just TEXTED (!!!) to pull out for financial reasons, so I'm left with a horse I really can't keep for much longer. He is on training livery at the mo, but I can't afford that for much longer, plus my yard owner has a new livery coming and has already let me stay longer than I was meant to.

Buyer wants to come back next Friday with another person to try him who will share with her. Sounds odd to me and I don't trust her anymore anyway.

So I am desperately trying to find a new buyer and new livery for him and keep my legs crossed so I don't give birth!

I have someone coming to see him tomorrow, plus another on Thurs and this original person who wants to come Friday. I also have another who is letting me know what day she can come.

I have been offered £800 for him from a dealer who will collect him tomorrow (he's up for £1950) or could put him on sales livery for £45 per week (full field livery for a horse who has never lived out?) but not sure how long he'd take to sell (not sure if they'd draw it out to make more money - always wary of this sort of thing) or I could find new livery and sell him myself, but it'd need to be full livery, I can no longer ride and baby may be here any day. To be honest I really need the money, so it's weighing up sale price and price of livery.

Any ideas from you wise people?

Hi, Sorry to hear about your dilemma. You could look for a field or living out livery then you could sell from the field. Most horses take to it really well. I had a back op a couple of years ago and turned all mine out including a full tb. They loved it. The buyer who was supposed to be collecting sounds like they messing you around, don't think i would give them a second chance. I hope it goes well with your baby and you manage to sort horse out.

I couldn't do normal field livery as no way I could be there twice a day to check on him and do feed/water/rugs/poo picking etc. It'd need to be full field livery which I can't find in my area.

Plus if I sell him from the field I am not going to get much for him. Is it really going to be much more than the £800 offered by the dealer, plus I have the hassle of finding a place and looking after him and the extra livery costs.

I really have no idea what to do!

sorry to hear your situation. is there no way he could go on grass livery and a firend or yard owner could do the bits and bobs so you can get on with having your babe. we've just taken a livery who's owner is having a bad pregnancy and its been agreed for the next few weeks the yo is doing haylage and water (will be living out) then he can be sold from field, or is there a local charity etc that mite take him for a while till you get sorted, or could you put him on grass livery and pay a teenager/collage pupil to do the basics??

I know what a crap time your having so hugs - but don't uncross your legs!!!!!!!

I think you should let the dealer have him. By the time you add up what you have paid or are paying out you will have spent on training livery then you will soon be hitting the £800 mark.

We have got crap weather coming again and while most horses do adapt to living oout - right now I don't think he would.

The people who have let you down are absolute t0ssers and I cannot believe people operate like that.

lots of people have a baby and a horse. yes it might cost you a little more for a few weeks but thats all. you are not ill, you are pregnant and soon you will not be pregnant! and babies are portable! at 35 coming 36 weeks all should be fine. he is on training livery at moment so leave him there and market him! stop panicking and think rationally. sell for less and cut your losses? hang on and pay livery and sell for better price less commission? chuck out in a field and check and feed every day? tthen sell when weather better and you are back riding? best of luck with the baby.

If you need the money let the dealer have him.

If you can afford to hang on then leave him where he is and re advertise him. If you drop the price to say £1600 you will probably be inundated with calls and that's double what the dealer will pay!

Good luck :-)

Id text the person who was meant to buy back and say she can have at reduced price of X if collects tomorrow if not he is going to a dealer as you cant hang onto any longer and if they want him then they can probably expect to pay double! If they are serious they will snatch your hand off if not they were timewasters and you'd be better off selling to the dealer! If you can afford to hang on then do that, it is hard work with a newborn but not impossible and you will probably find the break of going to the horse a huge relief - mums need time out especially new mums :-) Good luck with the baby and dont panic :-) x
