Some of you may remember that I posted a few months ago asking about having a puppy in the house when my OH really wasn't keen. You gave me some very helpful advice and points of view and I gave it lots of thought. In the end I came to the conclusion that I thought it would work, my OH is not a nasty person and I knew deep down that he would secretly quite like the puppy! We talked it over some more and the upshot was that he wasn't against having a puppy as such, he just didn't want to do any of the work (walking, cleaning up poop etc) and gave me the go ahead! :D

So, long story short, we picked up Woody nearly two weeks ago and he's settling into the family really well! OH is doing well and I've even caught him chatting to the puppy quite amiably a few times lol. The only issue at the moment that's really bothering OH is Woody biting at his feet and tugging at his trousers. I've started working on this with some clicker training but obviously it takes time and OH is not involved in that which means Woody is more likely to nip at his feet than mine - so any tips on something else that we can try that's easy enough for OH to do (he's not gonna walk around with a clicker and a treat bag like I do lol) would be gratefully appreciated! :o

Anyway, enough waffling, here are the pics :)

Aw how cute!!! So glad it all worked out!

Regarding the nipping of course your training will help but OH has to do a wee bit as well when the puppy does it to him. The usuals are: stop walking so that it's no longer a game, distract with a toy, reward the puppy if it stops the behaviour, squeal in mock pain...but your OH has to be persuaded to try them! (I totally sympathise, OH is pretty much the same!)

He's adorable.

As for his behaviour with your OH - surely the typical behaviour of a mischievous little puppy, exploring his world and trying to engage with it.

Tell you OH to get a grip, and participate (perhaps the clicker training would be better used on him........)

With regards to an easy(ish) fix, he does need to be persistant! :D - just tell him to turn him away from him and say away. He will quickly learn what this means as dogs learn by association.

Hope this helps!

Thank you, he is rather cute isn't he (not at all biased!)

Thank you for the tips, much appreciated :) If I continue with clicker training and OH does his bit but without clicker, will that just totally confuse him? My current method is to stand still and tell Woody to "drop it" then reward with clicker and treat when he does. I could ask OH to stand still but he gets impatient at the pain (his teeth are like a little shark!!) so he could then push him away and say "drop it" if he doesn't stop straight away. Then reward verbally and with a stroke. They're similar methods, so do you think it would work? I don't want to fry the poor little guy's brain lol

he's so cute!!

clicker training is great but for real basics like teaching him not to nlip feet etc a short sharp deterrent is best. A loud AA-AH! I think it's very important dogs have a correction when necessary, it cant all be based on just rewarding the positive. However that is only my humble opinon :D

He is so cute :) Is he a King Charles or a Cavalier King Charles? We have a Cavalier called Harvey. I remember when he was that small - although he's still kind of midget :D Harv used to nip too when he was little but he grew out of it after about a month or so. Have fun with your new puppy :)

Thank you both, I will keep persevering :). He's a Cavalier and both his parents are quite small so I don't think he's ever going to get very big. Fits on my lap very nicely ;)

I'm dying of cuteness. I begged my sister to get a black and tan when she got her cavalier but she wouldn't :( I think they are just the sweetest, I'm soooo jealous! Please give him a kiss on the head from me!xx
