Further to my recent post about my daughters rotational fall at a coffin fence:
Off we went to Lt Downham for a lesson with the great trainer there. It was a very low key lesson, very relaxed and my daughter started off very hesitant but finished the lesson much better. Horse, however was jumping very cautiously...not like him at all....
So we decided to get him checked out and to cut a long story short...he has a virus.
Well this explains his complete 'miss' at the coffin jump - as it was near the end of the course and so he was obviously tiring.
Good points : Daughter now realises that fall was not due to bad riding. We have both learnt a very hard lesson to keep an eye on the health of our horse more closely. At least we know that our poor boy was not being 'naughty' and hopefully will come back into work with his usual enthusiatic approach to xc.
Bad points: Daughter cannot continue with her BE events so it is a shame that she can't have that all important confidence building run... and will have to wait until next March before we get back into it............can't think of any more bad points.... just releived that we have found an answer to some of our questions and am excited about the prospect of next year when we can start all over again a bit older and wiser I hope.
Thank-you so much for all the kind and encouraging replies - it helped us so much. Especially to those who offered to 'hold my hand' at events.
I may ask you to next year ... 1st event likely to be Isleham, fingers crossed.
So that's it for us this season... at least it will give us plenty of time to re-build horse, rider & mother confidence. Indoor Dressage & SJ awaits! Roll on season 2009!!!!
