For those of you who have asked for an update.
The vet came out yesterday morning to check my mare over. She found tightness in her back just behind where the saddle sits. The tightness is on both sides but stronger on the left.
My mare did ok in the flexion tests but it took her longer to recover after flexion of the right hind (5 strides) compared to the left (3 strides).
When being lunged her canter was initially a little odd. Her hind legs were too close together (it almost looked as if they were tied together). This was only temporary though. She also changed behind several times, going disunited in canter.
The vet will reassess her again in a few weeks time and do a bute trial if there is no change in her way of going. The vet also recommended that I have her assessed by a physio.
So it is clear now that my mare was not being naughty when bucking but that she is not quite right physically. Sadly, I don't know at this point in time whether the tightness in her back is the primary problem or caused by pain elsewhere. I will write another update once I know more.
Thanks for reading and thanks again for all the helpful responses to my previous post.
