I had so many replies, advice and offers of help from you kind lovely people I thought I would give you an update on how things are now.

Well Blue is now back on the 18% protein food and seams a bit more settled in himself. We have been working with the Dog Roulette toy that I bought off one of the recommended websites and he loves the kong which I put a little bit of paste in for him.

I got him some more toys from the pet shop so we can start working on recognition. At the moment he is having a whale of a time throwing them in the air and bringing them to show me. I say the name of each one when he does like 'that's your owl' or 'thats your duck' etc

Best of all, and to be honest I am still overwelmed by it, is that Lady La La on here is coming over tomorrow to take him for a walk with her dog, no mean feat as she is a 45min drive away from us. So a BIG THANK YOU to her! I think I will owe her one hell of an IOU note!

Thats great news :)

I came across a book that might interest you on one of my random trawls through amazon, Brain games for dogs which has loads of great ideas including "armchair games" :D that you could try - in fact I may just be adding it to my Christmas list....

Thanks CaveCanem and Reddie - yes we are both ALOT happier!

Another great link Brownmare, thank you! Will go and take a look.

We did invent our own game tonight. Blue has a habit of leaving his toys in the doorway of the family room/kitchen.

So tonight I got him to bring them to me one by one, then take them back again one by one - he thought it was great fun (and so did I lol)

Sounds like you're both a lot happier already :D I must demand pics of the walk tomorrow if Lady La LA is in a position to take any :D

Glad things are working out:) kongs are fab things, although my collie (rescue collie) is not really fussed about food he is jsut ball and raggy obsessed, I wish he was food obsessed, he could do with gaining some poundage.

Oooh what a good idea Pix, I will ask her.

Thats one thing, Cayla, that Blue does not suffer with - loves his grub, especially cheese! Obviously have to go careful with that, but amazing how quick he got the hang of the roulette thing when I put cheese in it instead of biscuits lol

Whats the history with your collie?

My GSD is another cheese addict. I'd make disapproving noises if I didn't love the stuff myself. Will give you a 'don't be bloody a stupid bint' look if you wave some biscuits about, cheese is a different story altogether

More worryingly he managed to get his snout into a glass of coke recently, and will now mug anyone who dares hold a bottle/glass of the stuff. Not a good puppy addiction

We need pics of their walk! Don't ask, demand! :p:D

Well I'm not a very pushy person, but shall shuff my camera in her hand and hope for the best! lol

Coke!?! Now I've heard everything lol

I now have a very tired, dirty but very happy dog!

What lovely people Lady La La and her OH are, real pleasure to meet you both!

I totally forgot to give Lady La La my camera, but thankfully she took photos on her phone which hopefully she will post later. They looked like they had a fab time, and thankfully got on like a house on fire!

So thankyou again Mr and Mrs Lady La La (just in case I did not say it enough!)

Here they are, sorry but my photo skills are a bit pants, and I only remembered towards the end to take any photos so they're not great...

Blue is such a gorgeous dog in every way, so well behaved! Him and Tyson are firm friends and the walks around your way are Amazzzinggggg!
Would be more than happy to come and walk your lovely boy any weekend, I think we were out for a couple of hours and the dogs loved it :)

Bless you Lady La La, you are more then welcome to come and kidnap him any time you want, but like I said don't want you to feel obligated in any way - but you know where he is if you want to borrow him!

He had a whale of a time by the look of those pictures, lovely to see him running along with Tyson. He is currently crashed out by my feet - think he will be having very happy dreams tonight!

That's great! Blue looks like he had a whale of a time, shame you don't live closer together.

Lady La La - what a lovely thing you and your OH did :)

What with that and the brain training Herbie, think you might have the opposite problem soon and a very snoozy dog on your hands! :D

lol Mollichop, well he was rather muted this morning when I came down, didn't get my usual molestation and chatting to - or shall I reword, demanding breakfast lol

Yes I agree Brownmare he is rather lovely looking, but then I am baised lol - well I would be.

Well its been a few months since my cry for help so I thought I would give you an update, especially as I was inundated with replies on my initial post offering advice.

Well Blue is a much happier dog. In December I got a car with a hoist in for my little scooter, this meant I could take him out for walks again, admittedly only to the next village and only round the lake which we had to go round about four times to try and give him enough excercise lol

I still have a dog walker once a week and our neighbours have been walking him once a week as well.

A couple of weeks ago I bought a road scooter as I was finding the drive to and from the next village too exhausting especially for such a little walk. So now Blue and I go two or three times a week (health depending) from our little hamlet, down the back track to the village, round the lake, round the new wood, round Hoggs Kiss wood then back home. Approximately 4 miles and takes about 1 1/2hrs. Obviously we go at his pace (which is normally quite fast) and I take water for him (he has always got thirsty on walks)

He's absolutely loving it and so am I - so wonderful to be out in the 'real' country side again and not just limited to proper paths lol

Thanks Murphy, I can't tell you how wonderful it feels to be able to give him a proper 'walk' now, the guilt I felt before was immense. Having to rely on others is horrible, but now I don't have to!

Now we are out enjoying the countryside together again, exploring new places and finding new smells.
