I am glad and feel it was the right decision.

Her action is better, she looks more comfortable and she was amazing seeing as it was her first time shod!

Glad it's going well. I didn't comment on your original post - I can't bear how these types of threads often descend into unshod v shod debate with the implication that if your horse can't go barefoot it is down to how you are managing it.

I tried barefoot with my old lad who had navicular and it didn't work. I gave it a good try and I even bought him boa boots to help with the transition. I had a wonderful farrier who just wanted to try and find a solution and as well as barefoot tried wedges, clogs and all different sorts of shoe. In the end he was offered more support with shoes and was happier.

I'm sure she IS more comfortable, she has had her sensitive soles removed from the floor. Since you have no way of restricting her grazing to stop them being sensitive, then that was the only sensible course of action. Have fun riding her.

When i turned her out, she went trotting off and her action and general movement is a lot nicer in general.

She will have today and tomorrow off, as a few people have said she may be sore as it is her first set.

I really have valued all opinions and the people who have taken the time to respond to my other thread.

I did the same for my mare after 18mnths shoe freeness. Although I was initially horrified and shocked at how good she was when being shod and at how smug she looked afterwards, I was so glad that I'd done it. She too trotted away across the field and seemed immediatly so much happier:confused:.

The only downside for me I have found, is that she's so up on her toes now and behaving just like the breed she is:D

You will of learnt so much from your barefoot journey and it won't be wasted at all. You won't be one of those owners that just leaves it all to the farrier ever again;).

I'll be giveing my mare a shoe break come the winter, hopefully, getting my cake and eating it,...... or at least she will;):D:D.
