Just had a call back from the Dengie helpline and apparently it is the coating making the funny smell. They have a new supplier and lots of complaints!

They are sending me a sample bag to send some back so they can test anyway just to make sure that's what it is but they have said it is safe to feed and are working on the 'smell' as people are finding it offensive.

Yep, fair enough but.........I gave the two I originally opened back to YO and have since been to frogpool and had then opening nearly every bag they have and they ALL smell the same?! Dengie are happy that it is fine to feed, that it is not 'off' or 'mouldy' but that due to a different supplier the coating of the chaff is giving off a different smell - they are now aware that people are not liking this smell so are working on reducing it.

No one anywhere has any that smells different at the moment so apart from feeding something completely different I have no choice - everyone else is feeding it as it is and i have investigated the reason behind the smell before feeding it and I have no old stuff left so what else can I do??

Try another supplier?

I've just bought some from my supplier, and although it seems drier than normal, it doesn't smell strange.

That's not to say that Frogpool have done anything wrong, but I still think that they could've received a dodgy batch.
