I took all the advice given and my friend came down and jumped him again for me today. She has gotten to grips with him a bit more now and working out how to ride in the school as it is quite small.

I built a grid with a X pole 1 stride to an ascending oxer. Started with trot pole to X pole and then built the back part up to an upright followed with V poles. Eventually built back part up to oxer but kept the front part as a X pole. I also used ground pole for oxer. V poles definitely seemed to work and he picked up better in front.

He did hesitate a couple of times as the grid was built up so a few dodgy rides through but my friend rode him through well and kicked him on and also gave him a tap to tell him to go. So overall a good session.

What grid exercise can I do next? I will probably ride him next time so looking for something fun and not too many questions. Also, and grids to work on gymnastic exercises as well as improving the jump? The grid unfortunately can't be too big as the school is quite small around 20 x 40.

Photos and videos below are from today.

Can't help with the grid work but wanted to say well done, sounds like he's coming along well and you're seeing improvements, which is great.
