Sooooo

Horse went to vets last week for x rays diagnosed with changes in front feet, coffin joint, rotating pedal bones (basically fu***ed poor thing)

Called dealer AGAIN and he agreed to sort it out, and admitted that he tried to diddle us (!!!!!) the horse had NEVER been 5 staged etc - even though he wrote and signed a letter stating that the horse had a vetting and x rays!

We have known him for years, we were suppesed to be friends, and he did that!

It is a joke but he came up, gave us the cash, and took the horse away.

We have lost a friend and I cannot believe that he would poo on his own doorsteplike that but thankfully he saw sense before it got dragged round the courts and very messy!

Hurrah - though I feel really, really sorry for the pony as his fate is uncertain now due to the mess of all 4 feet. So a bitter sweet ending really.

TBH, I'm speechless. What a horrid "friend"- you really can't trust anyone.

Serves proof I guess that it would have been worth a 5 stage vetting. Good look with the next one.

Yes - my mums theory is you can never trust a 'horsey' person - dont know what that makes me? Or her for that matter!

The horse was bought for business so could have been very, very nasty all round really!

A sorry tale but thank goodness you have got the money back. I wonder where the poor animal is going to end up now though. Such a shame that he has wrecked your trust and friendship.

There is little doubt that the seller realised that what he had done was not just a Trading Standards Issue, it is also a criminal offence....basically obtaining a pecunary advantage which is an offence under the Theft Act 1968. It became a criminal offence following him lying over the vetting of the horse. This part of his story to you was a contributory & possibly major factor as to why you bought the horse. When that became a lie the offence was complete.

The offence is still there but by paying you the money back & taking the horse back you will no doubt drop the matter.

He has been a very stupid individual, he's ruined his reputation with you & when word gets around other people his business will really suffer.

It's amazing what 'friends' will do to you when money is involved! Well doner in getting your money back.

never trust anyone selling horses lol!

Are you saying that you spent 20k on a horse and as he was a "friend" didnt get it vetted? I never vet myself, but there again I never spend over 2k on anything.....just curious, not being judgemental x

Well, thank g*d you got your money back is all i can say ! I suspect the dealer in question upon realising he had been caught out in that way, was trying to salvage anything that might be left of his reputation....and avoid any potential legal action by you as he would have been in very deep water had it gone down that route

As i remember, part of the deal was p/ex of another horse...did you get that back too, or did he just stump up the full amount in cash ?

I take it you won't be using him again......and advising your real 'friends' of the same

Your very lucky that could have been a very expensive lesson learnt. I know a lot of people don't but vettings do happen for a very good reason, lets hope the next person gets him vetted and the dealer doesn't try the same trick again.

Yes we are mad not getting the horse vetted however we did have a contract/receipt with him (which he signed) clearly stating that the horse had been vetted by a named vet 1 month before and that it had had full xrays (which the vet had on file) that were all clear.

We were happy with this and intended to get the xrays from the vet via our vet when he came to do the horses vacs etc – unfortunately the horse went lame before the vet had even arrived (about day 4)

We usually get all horses vetted that we buy to bring on however in this instance, because we knew him, and he had signed a document, we trusted him (for our sins)

A lesson learnt!

We never get anything less than £4k vetted (that is just us though) but anything over gets at least a 2 stage.

I get even things under 2k vetted for heart, eyes and lungs - the bits we can't do - as I think even if you own a stethoscope - unless you regularly listen to hearts/lungs you won't hear subtle changes

glad you got your dosh back without a court fight
