Firstly thankyou to everyone that replied to my post on my horse with a foot abcess, especially Kick on and Tom1 for their excellent advice.
I had the farrier out before christmas and he said he was sure there was no more pus and that the horse was just still sensitive. Anyway after 7 weeks the horse is now almost perfectly sound.
I took him out for the 1st time today and he was an absolute loony and not at all lame, when he eventually calmed he was very slightly lame in trot on the road but on grass was again completely sound. We were only out for about 15 mins and I intended to only walk but it didn't really go to plan as he was leaping up and down like a yo yo and the only way I could get him to go forward was in trot.
I am still cleaning the hole out with hydrogen peroxide and then stuffing it with cotten wool soaked in iodine. Fingers crossed the worst is over.
I have now cut his feed down to just chaff and will lunge him before I go out again.
