Well, I got home from work with the full intention of taking her to the vets to be pts and she came bounding down the drive wagging her tail. So we went to the vets in trepidation and he was chuffed to bits when her saw her. She's gone from 9/10 lame to 2/10 lame and much happier in herself. The pain relief is working BUT, I know its only a temporary thing and we are talking only weeks/months. However, I feel better that she's comfy and happy and when that stops I will be prepared to send her to the rainbow bridge. I know I'm only delaying the inevitable but if she's not in pain then I feel happier to give her the chance. The vet, who I know very well, has said we should give her the benefit of the doubt for now and he'd do the same if it was his dog.
I'm still prepared for the worse to happen and I'm aware it won't be too long, but she's not ready to go quite yet.
 
Forgot to say, the vets thought she was in more pain on Tuesday as they'd manipulated her joints to get the x-rays. Once the pain killers had kicked in then she was more comfy and has stopped the whining.

Thats exactly my thoughts. I expected some criticism for my choice but unless you've seen her then no-one can truly judge. She is far happier now the pain relief is working and I know its only a temporary measure but I want to spend a few weeks having great fun and spoiling her whilst she can still enjoy it!
 
I don't blame you for snatching a few more weeks if she's pain free. I found it very hard making such a snap decision when my dog had the same thing and would have given anything to buy a few more happy times with him.
 
We just lost our very very beloved cairn terrier in a very similar way recently (he had a mass on his right hip/spine) and I know how hard these decisions are. We kept him going on painkillers for a while and when we felt the bad days were out numbering the good days we called it a day. It was the hardest decision in the world but just enjoy the last painfree days and you're dog will let you know when it's time...ours did.
 
Claire how nice to read you have Amber for a little while longer. I've been busy for a few days and am just heading off for the States tomorrow so thought I'd just pop on here quickly....and I'm so pleased I did.

You enjoy your girly for as long as she is happy and pain free.
