Update on arson case - arrests made!

hope they get the treatment merited under 'eye for an eye' - biblical justice would be a petrol can and a couple of matches.

their community service - seeing they like dead animals so much - should be to send them to work in an abbatoir (or at bernard matthews poultry farm - b-awl difference)

and they should be made to rebuild the victims stables by hand using no power tools and made to do the job right - if they make a mistake they have to re-do the work, plus funding the purchase of 3 more (very expensive) ponies for the victim - not that those would replace the ones he lost

They'd proabably enjoy working in a abbatoir being the sickoes they are, i think the owners of the horses should be let loose on them they wouldnt do anything like it again.

In my eyes the people who want tortuous vengeance are not much better than the criminals. The fact that those thoughts, provide some sort of comfort is incredibly disturbing.

Easy to say when its not your ponies being burnt to death, hearing them screaming, and not being able to help. If it was mine I would want be there with the petrol and matches and make the ones responsible suffer.

I don't think thats at all odd or thinking like it means you are as bad as the criminals. There is a HUGE difference - much as I could say it and think about it - I couldn't actually do it - so there is your difference and its a massive one. Just because you think about revenge - does not make you as bad at all - its only if you act on it.

You must be a saint if you think if someone did something horrible to your pets or family, that the thought of revenge would never ever cross your mind.

no - it's not 'comfort' that it provides - what we want is JUSTICE - and there is precious little of that in this country even for those cases that make it to court

If you'd ever had to exist (I do not use the word live) with your horses incinerated body alongside 6 of his companions for 48 hours whilst the police and firebrigade investigated the arson.......

....or tried to understand how you left a perfectly fit, happy, event horse at 8pm to get a phonecall at 2am to tell you he'd been burnt to death with 6 of his companions and the whole yard was toast...........

..........then if you could possibly put yourself in my shoes........when I'd had my original horse put down due to illness and old age only 5 days previously and teh horse that was murdered was his much loved replacement that I'd had for a year.......

...........then you may come close to understanding why the only justice I consider appropriate for that crime is a tin of petrol, restrained perpetrator and the provision of a box of matches.

I could post a picture of my horses' body to the forum but I think H&H would find it "upsetting" to the forum members.

10 years on I don't forget or forgive and I'm not the same person I was before. YOu don't forget the day, the date or the year. It's engraved on your memory.

AND it's not just me. I was only speaking to an ex Police officer that was involved in the investigation of the case and he said to me that since that day he'd had no sense of smell as the smell of the burnt horses was so awful.

I have endless admiration for the fire brigade as they deal with incidents of people burnt to death in house fires, car crash fires, etc on a daily basis. I know that I couldn't do that job.

We don't want 'comfort' - there isn't any after that sort of incident - all there is is time.....and time isn't as much of a healer as people seem to think - consider those people who lost children to Myra Hindley - did all of them 'forget' or 'heal' after 30 years - NO NO NO

what we want is an effective Police force that catches these sick b'tards and then throws the book at them so they don't see the light of day ever again. However as the Police are operating with their hands tied and no budget and the Courts can't sort out anything much then perhaps vigilante justice is what is left. Not right but I can see it coming

So next time you start on about the people who want vengence - put yourself in the victim of crime's shoes before you put finger to keyboard

I think it's a case of whether you have a family to look after as well if you are a victim

I haven't got a family - if I was placed in front of the person that did the arson and supplied with a box of matches and a can of petrol I think I could do it - as the chap in this arson said - he could hear his horses screaming and he couldn't help them

I was told by my vet that my horse wouldn't have suffered as he'd have been unconscious before the flames got him

this eye-witness description has put paid to that 'consolation' in my case and tbh made me even more angry that my horse suffered as these horses did and the perpetrator got away with it

the only other 'consolation' is the 'prison justice' system that is in effect for, e.g. child molesters and child killers, the 'old lags' know how to dish out real justice to those criminals when the courts cannot.

After this article I now know that my horse suffered and would have been terrified before his death. I would use those matches and petrol if I knew for certain that the right person had been caught for the crime and with DNA nowadays that certainty is there.

as I said in previous post

If you ain't been there then don't judge those of us that have and be thankful - every day - that you haven't been there !!

I'm sorry I posted it now, I would never have wished that on you.

Having said that - maybe in your horses case it was different. If you think most people who die from smoke inhalation are asleep and don't know about it and is is more than likely that given the time of the attack your horse would have been dozing and therefore not known what happened.

This one was the sort of time that people were up and making noises and the owner was trying to get them out so of course the ponies would have been getting distressed.

I really do hope yours was as they said and that he'd not have known.

Huge hugs, and again I'm sorry at bringing this all back for you, I know I'd restrain the sods for you while you struck the matches...

don't feel upset - it comes back every time I read about arsons involving horses in H&H or the papers or the beeb website

it's something you live with but it does change you

apart from these people with the kid in Portugal our thoughts ought to go out to the families that are now reliving their cases, like Millie Dowler and the Soham girls.

This constant publicity will be bringing it all back to the surface for them as well and I reckon they'll be wondering about the ending for the McCann kid........

The only thing that would help is if this gov. ever got round to considering the victims of crime properly - instead of focusing on the 'rights' of the criminals
