I posted a while back so thought I would post an update....

OH still wants to do it himself but a chap up the road who is experienced at backing has agreed to come and help hold him when we get to the sitting on point.

As the weather has been so pants we haven't done a lot but got him in the other day when it was nice and the ground wasn't too bad got the tack on and took him into the paddock for a long reining session, and he had a right hissy fit to start with it was a case of 'I've never had this done to me before' type strop...but then went well in the end so we were pleased.

Since then he has been out for 2 more long reining sessions on a shortish hack up the road accompanied by another horse. Both times we have then done some work when we've got back and my OH has managed to lean over him full weight which he has taken really well, looks a bit confused but more interested in chewing the lead rope than worrying about it. So all in all I am pretty confident that he just need to do it more regularly like every day or at least everyother day.
If we have any major issues OH will have no choice.. I will send him away to be backed!!!!

Also since then we got a 4yo stallion by Unbelievable Darco, unbroken but had been sat on a couple of times...

Well he had no mouth when he came so we've been long reining him and lunged which he is been brilliant with, leant over him a few times and OH sat on him for the first time last night and he was like 'oh right ok can we go for a walk now??!!' So we're chuffed to bits with him. We will do this a bit more inside and progress to walking round the barn, then out into his small paddock that he knows!!
I'm really excited about him, he is very laid back so fingers crossed apart from the 'I'm a stallion and I have to shout a lot' he seems very trusting and happy to have us on his back!!
The plan with him is to get him going over the winter and hopefully get him graded next year so he can stand publicly at stud!!

Here he is... Mr Darco (AKA Felix):
