just an update for those who posted on my other thread regarding Kenny losing his appetite and his blocked tear duct.

The day after i had posted on here, went down to the yard to see him and ring the vet for advice on his lost appetite. well, got down and he had polished off every last scrap of haylage! Kept an eye on him and hes been fine ever since with both his morning and evening nets, back to diving on loose strands of haylage on the floor!

Now onto his blocked tear duct - for those of you who dont know Kenny has a blocked tear duct, causing his eye to become infected because his tears cant drain. we have tried 2 different types of antibiotic drops and flushing the duct but neither helped so he was going to have a lavage system put in so we could administer strong antibiotics at regular intervals as he is not the easiest pony to medicate

The day the vet came to insert the lavage system she said she had been talking to a consultant who has tried various methods of curing blocked tear ducts, include lavages with no success.

So he suggested surgery, i think he founded this method but not 100% - as the blockage is low enough down his tear duct, he can have another 'channel' created from his tear duct which will divert into his sinus. a catheter will be added to create the channel and removed after a month or so to prevent it from healing again.

The surgery will hopefully be sometime next week. If anyone has any experience or information on this it would be greatly appreciated.

Fingers crossed for a smooth procedure - hopefully this will finally sort it out for my poor boy! <3
