Chloe (my mum's horse) has been on loan to a local riding school for the past 3 weeks as I'm preggers, and my mum's just had a new hip put in. They've got her for a month's trial before it goes permanent, so I popped up there to see her yesterday and she's settled right into the school life.
There were some worries about her as she's got arthritis in her hock, and was stiff for the licensing vet (I'd taken her for a last gallop a few days earlier, and probably shouldn't have done
). Thankfully the regime seems to be suiting her, and she was apparently very sprightly in her lesson on Sunday and was very forward in trot
She banged the door when she saw me, so I like to think she recognised my voice, but I suspect it was the apple in my hand that that she had spotted.
She's looking fantastic, and has already lost weight. She has been used in the lessons for nervous riders, and is proving herself to be fantastic for hacking out. They only go out in groups of 5 max, but normally only 2 go, the pupil and the teacher, and they walk and trot round the bridlepaths for an hour. Some of their other horses are a bit sharp out on the paths, but Chloe is extremely safe and doesn't get excited about anything.
In the school she is very good at standing waiting for her turn and following the other horses in a circle
It was so nice to see her looking so well, and my doubts about her going away have been well and truly squashed. The school owners love her to bits as well, and want to make the loan permanent, which means that she's now got a home for life
They've said I can go and ride her whenever I want, so I need to make arrangements to take her for a hack before I get too big to climb on
