Just been out comparing legs (for about half an hour) - it is a vein!! I pressed it hard and realised there was a pulse there. It is just a bit more pronounced than on other leg. Both legs have the same pulse and its fairly steady.

What would be reason for slightly enlarged vein? Both legs feel exactly the same with very little heat (legs as warm as you would expect in stable with stable wraps on).

Its been the week from hell this week so I was HUGELY relieved to find it was a vein. Perhaps I should have looked harder earlier!!

My hunter had a large vein with a pulse for about a month. Had farrier numerous times as I suspected it was in the foot. He couldnt find anything. Had vet he scanned leg, said it was clean and suspected foot. He recommended another farrier and he found out 2 large corns! Vein and pulse had gone next day. I have also now changed farriers.

Something going on in the foot. If you are lucky it's just a bruise and you'll know no more about it. Worst case probably an abscess but they aren't a big deal either. You'll know in a few days.

By the way I'd be concerned if the pulse in both legs is easy to feel. Is there a pulse at the fetlock? It sounds as though he could have a touch of laminitis - they often have one foot that goes first, and that would be the one with the bigger vein.
