Well I took some photos of the little guy's injury and have uploaded the photos. These were taken just over a week after his initial injury and I am still quite happy with the progress, but am keeping a close eye as the colour has slightly changed today. He's a great little patient and he is happily wandering around his pen and going out for walks and nibbles of grass every day.

Here are the photos taken 9 days after injury:

And with the povidone on and ready to be dressed and bandaged up for the night.

And for those who didn't see the injury on the day it was done, here you go!

jeez how did the poor chap manage that?

I have to say it looks exceptionally clean for a wound of that size and its location

He was rolling next to a hay feeder and somehow got his leg caught in it. He got up and started eating like nothing had happened. I can't believe he wasn't lame - and he is still totally sound. He was very lucky.

I can't believe it you're doing so well. Looks lovely and clean and can I already see the start of nice new pink flesh around the edge of the wound? I'm getting to be an expert on that. Your fella's doing great and so are you. By the looks of it there's very little if no proud flesh as well - would you like to come and put your magic touch on mine? Well done you.

Well the white thing in the middle is the tendon and the skin was stripped right back to it, leaving 4 to 5 inches of the tendon exposed but thankfully absolutely no damage was done to the tendon. You can barely see it anymore as the skin has covered almost all of it now.

The vet came today and was absolutely thrilled with his progress. I was keeping an eye on the new flesh. This changed colour and I hoped that this was not the start of proud flesh, however vet says no. He has advised to leave it open now, with no dressing and the foal is now out in the field rather than being stuck in the pen for any longer; totally sound as he bombed about the paddock this afternoon

. He is off antiB's now and bute on my vets advice. This injury could have been the end of this little guy but with a lot of good luck so far it seems that there should be no lasting ill-effects of it.

How is your horse doing Debs? I hope you have had success too.

I wasn't really sure whether I may have been seeing the first signs of proud flesh yesterday, but today it looked different and back to normal colour again. Vet said he can't see any proud flesh yet and has given me some cream to try to stem the speed of the new flesh growing. He wants to encourage the outer layer of skin to come in from the sides and cover over the new growth within the injury. It's all looking good right now - I still am being wary about thinking that we are over it though; experience has taught me that, it really isn't over till it's over, but I'm trying to get him there.

I know what you mean by "it's not over till it's over" but you're doing a fantastic job.

Bet you little fella is really enjoying himself being let out to graze and be natural? But don't you just hate that walk back to the field on the night?

Can I ask what cream the vets given you?

The vet just gave me some Hydrocortisone cream.

The little guy is having a blast now that he is out again, however the interesting thing is that him and his little buddy go back into their pen at night or when they want to lie down....cute.

youch! Bet you got a real fright when you saw that.

Poor little guy, it looks like its healing really well though, really clean and pink. He's a lucky boy damaging so close to the tendon but not damaging the actual tendon.
You got any pics of him?

He's just turned 6 months old. He is a lovely little guy, so affectionate and cuddly.....and he's a little star we think.
