Update on foot abscess - advice please!

Following on from earlier post - having poulticed for a week with only small amount of pus coming out and then dry for couple of days, he was still sore so called vet out. He had to sedate him then cut away some of frog and sole but was reluctant to cut much of wall as there wouldn't be much left to attach shoe to. He couldn't find sign of abscess or entry wound. Walked and trotted up and only slightly lame in trot. Said to bandage and leave for a week and if no worse get farrier back. Had to have other back shoe off as loose and bandaged that one too. Turned him out and yesterday he had worn thro duck tape and was extremely reluctant to walk. Re-bandaged and turned out wit the intention of bringing in this morning. He really struggled to walk but got him in on deep bed and took bandaged off. Do you think he's just very foot sore or should I get vet back?

Just sound's like what Ive gone though with mine. Did you hot tub his foot? Luckly mine came out on it's own no digging by vet. But it did take about 7 weeks to burst!! He done the same as your's wearing down the toe part of the boot. It's a bit or try and error with nappie's and gaffa tape!! I used vet tape,gamage then a bit of plastic bag,tape mostly on the toe part then two nappies, loads more tape I think I put plastic bag on the nappies too?? And finshing it off with a good amount of tape. Mine got foot sore too. Just make sure the whole foot is supportd with enough padding as Ive find out the hard way he's stained that leg due to not having enough padding uneven foot!!!

I'll manged to get away using the boot most day's as I cut down the back of it. Made sure plenty of clean stuff was put on first. If the gaffa tape tape doesnt work there are boot's out there for abscesses. Hope you get it sortd soon.

7 weeks - OMG you poor thing! I didn't put nearly as much padding on as you did - I only put poultice or nappy, vetwrap and tape so maybe it's my fault he's foot sore. Anyway when I went to him this afternoon, having been in for nearly 8 hours, he seemed much happier and walked out of his stable without hesitation. So I've decided (someone shoot me if I'm wrong) to keep him in and not turn out at all until he's sound and I'm going to wash foot and iodine it every night and leave naked on a deep bed. Fingers crossed please!!

I know was very hard seeing lame and knowing what was causeing it just having to wait such a nightmare!!! I'll bought him in day time out at night. Hence all the padding as I didnt want him loseing the space boot. well that's what it lookd like. I find having him out was better as movement is good to get things moveing. Personaly after putting him out for one night without anything on made him even more sorer. Then again every horse is different. Mine's such a woss!!
