Thanks for all the tips.Had farrier out and although there was heat in hoof this morning by the time he had come it had disappeared.Ollie was sedated to dig out infection which was not there. The crack was old trauma and is ok.
Back to square one with really lame horse.Tendon scans and xrays are being arranged again. We only had them done in June for splints and suspected suspensory.Going to look at navicular and do nerve blocks .I dont think I have any more options the insurance money is running out after spavin op and other investigations.
What else can be looked at

A new farrier and a competent vet? Sorry but any significant vertical cracks are well known for being the result of previous trauma and I'm surprised your farrier and vet did not know this? What did they think was going to happen? An abscess popping out from the horn?

I was reading your experiences yesterday and you've spent 7 grand on this horse? How much are they charging you for all of these sedations and speculations? Sorry but from what I have read, I think they are having a laugh at your expense. Of course, I apologise if this is not the case and your posts have just been sparse with details.

Did I write vertical it should have been horizontal.
Its not the vet or farrier its definitely the horse.First year he did ligament second tendon and cannon bone bruise he has had remidial shoeing different farrier he messed his feet up.He had all the indications of suspensory, hes a very wimpy tb but it turned out to be a fracture /splint then he was kicked in the field hence second fracture then feeling better has looned round the field and inflammed tendon. January he had spavin op which was necessary and has recovered well but keeps going lame on his front end now.He also stood on 4 inch nail out hacking after surgery .He really is accident prone. He has reared over backwards and is always cutting his legs on things.
I contacted his trainer at the race yard and he was always lame with them .I understand what your saying but I cant praise my vet highly enough or the farrier.Hes investigated everything properly and horse has made full recovery because of treatment until the next incident.
Im just at saturation point but really am so fond of him.

Argh! Sounds like a complete nightmare. I have to say, you are a better woman than I, because I very much doubt this horse would be still wandering about my fields

.

I do hope your vet manages to get to the root of the problem this time around, and that your horse comes back to being sound ... particularly after spending so much time and money on trying to get him right. You might as well keep going now or all of the time/money will go down the drain.

Very best wishes - hope for a positive outcome.

Could it be lami...? I know sometimes it is hard to confirm it...also it might have been an abcess as I know they can come and go....
Can you rest him for a week and then see what he is like...?
Is it an old break or pulled muscles maybe...?
Im just wondering about tendons too....
does the heat come and go..?

just another thought - how about having him barefoot for a while....also feeding him formula for feet which really helps improve horses feet.....?
You could ride him in old macs as it might be the shoeing which isnt helping....

Hes been rested since about may last year for continuous injuries.Hes on restricted turnout .The heat does come and go but only over the last two days .I check his legs all the time because of his history of lameness so picked up the tendon pull within hours.
No abcess the farrier checked today .The heat round fetlock area is a mystery as it went in a hour.Hes stabled overnight as our grass is low but friend said he was banging on the door this morning.Dont know if that caused heat.

Knees have been xrayed that was done in June .Wont get back done until lameness disappears I booked it but had to cancel due to anther one of his many incidents. He was being cold hosed and panicked at the hose pulling lump of timber off the stable which he proceded to drag around outside the stable block.Stupid yo had changed all the twine to strong stuff and it didnt break as it should have done. His quick release lead rope didnt work either. He is a walking disaster area.

xray and nerve block it is then I think....hopefully the vet can come up with an idea....
sounds odd....like he may have over strained something when he was younger and it has caused him probs ever since...
can you keep him as a companion?

No If I had my own land it wouldnt be a problem but I cant afford to keep three so I would have to have him as a ornament. At the end of the day we do all the work to ride and he isnt rideable.I have just bought my daughter her first horse hoping we could ride together.Ill look into our options first but this constant breaking down is a real issue and worry.

My horse had seedy toe which developed into a massive abcess in her hoof which has now caused trauma induced laminitis and her pedal bone has slightly rotated. Could be something similar
