Update, on horse with hindlimb lameness

Hi all!,
Thought would give an update on my horses visit from the vet.
Vet came, and had a look.
As I explained in my last post, my horse went rather uneven , wouldnt say lame, on his hindlegs.. I couldnt think what could have happened..
Well, those that suggested it was his back is right!!!!!
The vet took a look at his back and felt along the spine. He did react, tried to bite my little arabs head off.(who he is stabled next to)
Seems there were two vertebraes of the back, right in the middle of the back where he was reacting.
So have been given a weeks danalon to put in his feed.
Has anyone else been given danalon(sp) for back pain and did it work..
My vet doesnt have the equipement to x ray his back.
Not sure whether I should push for this to be done by referral. I suppose I will wait and see if he makes any progress after the treatment. He is insured and I want him to be right, obviously!!
what does everyone think?? Thanks inadvance for all replies!!! very grateful

Certainly no expert here but surely just a bit of danalon will just relieve him of pain whilst hes on it - its not a fix surely?! Shouldn't he have x-ray/proper treatment or some chiro or something?

I know, the vets here dish out danalon for everything....
they arent specialised in horses

I would be requesting a proper work up and if your vet does not have xray equipment etc he may even have the diagnosis wrong! Sometimes there is more than one thing wrong as well.

A referal to either the local equine vet hospital or a specialist equine lameness vet would be essential I think for you to have confidence in the treatment and diagnosis. Danilon will make him more comfy but is hardly a "treatment". You have insurance which will only cover this problem for one year so you need to start now as the clock is ticking and believe me the time flies!

get an equine vet to a lameness work up done, i have just had one done on my horse and it cost me £89 including call out. then if they say the same get a refferal done for x-rays etc, rule out kissing spine if he is uncomfortable in his vertabrae. danilon will just mask the pain.

I'd get a proper lameness workup done as well. My lovely boy has spent 2 nights in horsepital having a thorough investigation into his subtle unlevelness. The vet was brilliant, spent a long time doing his detective work as he's a lameness expert. He's got arthritic changes in his fetlock and damage to his proximal suspensory ligament in the same hind leg.

Back pain can often be caused by problems in the leg(s)

thanks all..........
had a chat with my vet today.. and he says once the treatment is finished, if theres no improvement, he will refer me. He thinks it could just be inflammation round his vertibraes in his spine..
But think your all right, I WILL push for a referral, to get it properly checked out. Thanks guys, for your good advice!
