just to update you all on Cooies progress, she has somehow managed to only cause severe bruising to her left side (swelling is now going down nicely) & a few puncture wounds to her knee & hock, as well as big cut to chin. but will live & as long as she will load again compete.

here are a couple of pics of the box on the side of the road.

Flipping heck, I bet that was scary but really pleased to hear the good news. I hope the bruising/swelling go down and the cut continues to heal. x

Lordy lord !!! what bodger built the ramp it looks like its just fixed to the side raves!!! no wonder it came off!!! hope ponio is ok and the owners blood presure is back to normal
what a horrid but avoidable accident...hugs to everyone ....

Yes truely scary, and in my opinion no side ramp sould rely on just one lock. The last one I saw like this scythed down a concrete lamp post ,fortunately no one was hurt, and the horse was retained by a proper internal gate.

internal gate was on the side of the road where it fell when Cooie wiped it out on her way down & the ramp gouged a chunk out the road as they stopped.
it was built for friend by a gent that does conversions in local town.
I hope his liabilty insurance is up to date and your friend has a good lawyer...

Really glad to hear Cooie is ok. Got to admit I first thought it must have been a really old wagon for the ramp to just fall off so I was suprised at the pictures. Saying that, it all looks very flimsy, I know nothing about builds, just looking at the breast bar etc??
I agree, this bloke needs shopping, making boxes like that.
Hope Cooie and your friend make a full recovery.

From your picture one can see that it is a very basic conversion of a box truck and not strong enough for a horsebox.
sadly most people arnt mecanicaly minded and have to trust the seller or builder of the lorry as to the quality and or strength of the conversion, there are some appauling conversions about as well as good well built ones so its very important to get them checked by a competant person, before purchase and afterwards regulaly to make sure all is well...

Perfect11s you are very true in that statement & its the very reason i wont buy a conversion, sorry but id rather buy something that was built for the job in the beginning my babes are just too precious for the risk (that said i need the breast/breech bars lowered)

Sorry to say this but this applys equaly to any horse box or trailer!! A newly built so called coachbuilt could be badly made/ engineered or a older one could be suffering from rot or corosion in its structure /floor, there is no reason a box van conversion should be any less safe than any other type...... get em checked out...
