It was really good I really enjoyed it. Did have one hairy moment though when I whacked my leg into the side of a tree. It hurts but Im keen to go again.

Id love to do it again but where can I get a horse on loan to hunt with? Is it possible? Id love to buy one but the prices are way out of my league at the moment.

You can go hunting on any horse - any age, size, shape or breed - so if you're looking for something on loan - don't think you have to have a certain type. Depends on the hunt, the type of country you have to cross and whether jumping is required - most hunts nowadays don't need big jumping horses.

In fact, some of the best hunters in the world are TBs - and those are cheap at the moment lol!

Some people looking to loan their horse might prefer that the loaner didn't hunt him due to the higher risks involved.

If you want a horse on loan, look in all the usual places and you can always advertise - also ask your local hunt - word of mouth is always a good recommendation :)

Thanks spacefaer. I hadnt thought of a TB. I havent asked the hunt as it was my first time today but its not really that local to me. I guess your right that most owners wouldnt want their horses to be hunted.

If you're a GOOD rider, then you should be able to find horses to hunt. There are a couple of chaps local to me who hunt 2-3 days a week on other people's horses - and their caps are paid! I've got a couple myself that need to be introduced to hunting - but finding time is always the problem. I remember a huntsman who used to be based at a local hunt to me - he had to fight off people wanting to lend him horses to hunt, because he MADE them so well!

Well I wouldnt say Im that good but I stayed on. Im not the bravest either. It maybe worth asking the hunt maybe. I might look at some TB's. However, I do love the ISH's but they're way out of my price range.

I am in Cumbria. I am busy with pointing and uni over winter, and the horse is fit from eventing etc over summer and I don't really want him roughed off but kept going.

Cavaletti - did you have fun :) I'm going with them this Sat !!

Honestly I'm going to see how she goes as she hasn't been out for years but if she goes well and is safe I am hoping to get out more - it will push me to sort out my trailer test

How long were you out for ?? Did you plait and go in darks or go unplaited and in tweed like it says on the web ??

(I'm thinking of having to wear my navy hunt coat as I have a show hunter class the very next day ! If I come off /it rain/ I get ketchup on it somehow I am doomed lol )

You don't know where in Cumbria lol it's could just be up the M6- I think that sounds like an amazing offer !!

You can have my bonkers mare and I'll take this one on offer lol

(bonkers but beautiful and hunts lol - just don't ask her to hack alone)

Ps seriously she's 15.2 grey TBx conny, I need to split her up from my yearling for the winter we are in Stretton close to Warrington

You could always go out with the North East Cheshire? :)

Change of location means I can't hack lol I'm based is Stretton so Antrobus Arms was fab - I wish we could hunt on Sundays when my driver/lover/mess maker wasn't in work. Really need to pass this blooming trailer test!! I had splashed out on a fancy new Musto stock too .... and made sure I could still tie it lol

I already checked the NECDH and they are riding from Chapel House wich is much much further to ride - unless you are offering to pick me up :)

Ladylina - yes it was fab, had a great time last saturday. I wore my navy jacket too. I dont have a tweed jacket. Im not sure dominobrown would let me bring the horse nearer home. Also the horses were unplaited. We were out for 4½ hours. Im planning to go again but probably the beginning of October now. Isnt the Antrobus Arms the last meet in September. Might go to that instead. The only thing is my back ached for two days afterwards. That cant be normal can it?

Noooo Thats the Davenport arms - They have changed this week to pickmere which although only about 5 miles further to far to hack the non hacker !!

Had a fab lesson on her though tonight she's such a try hard little sprite when she wants to be !! I was really looking forward to getting out this weekend and it would have done us both good but I am taking my Yearling to his 1st show the day after - Its a bit much to ask to defy death 2 days on the trot :)

I imagine your back ache is due to strength - the only thing to make that better is more practice !! If its your lower back then try to bend from the hip with a flat back holding your tummy muscles in rather than just folding at the waist.

Maybe see you out and about at a meet over the season

I'll be on this

PS unless I go after Dominobrown lol - you should be VERY nice to this woman :) xxx

Its just a tad too far from me unfortunately, as Id love to take your horse hunting if I was a bit nearer. :(

Ladylina - yes I will hopefully see you out with the Cheshire Farmers soon. Unfortunately Im right near Chester so too far away from Dominobrown.
