Update on interview: Bad & good news (in SB as well)

Ok so Wednesday I went for the second interview of the job I desparately need and want. It was the assessment round so I was given a basic copy of their terms and conditions to critically review within an hour. Thanks to the help of some fellow HHOers I calmed down and was able to do it

I got to hand in my prep notes as well as the word document and PowerPoint presentation I had done. I was told that they would let people know of the decision on Friday or early next week.

I get a phone call today from the agency. The bad news is I haven't got the job. The good news is it is because I am through to a final interview

There is only myself and another candidate. Apparently the work I did was very good, and I only lost points where I don't have the experience to know better. I was described as a very strong candidate who is extremely likeable and would fit very well into the role. Apparently there is nothing to choose between myself and the other candidate, we are, "on a par."

So the third interview - which they had hoped wouldn't be needed - will be meeting the Commercial Director of the company for an informal chat. Effectively, his view is being sought to see who will fit into the role better in his opinion, carry out the duties more efficiently and who is more likeable.

I am pleased, but almost disappointed that I have another round to try and get through. I've got my op in a week's time and the interview is the Wednesday after...April 1st - I forgot that is April Fool's day

I've decided that in a bid to try and give myself as much confidence as possible, I am going to go to Westfield next week, hopefully see if my mum fancies going, get myself a new outfit to wear and some other stuff and get myself in the mentality to go in and strut my stuff.

Thank you for all the vibes and support - I will let you know a) how the op goes and b) how the final interview goes and what the result is

Very pleased you're though to the final round as it were (though would have loved it if you'd got it!).

Just remember, you must have a pretty good wow level and knowledge level to have got as far as you have

I'm happy, I haven't really got to start thinking about it until after the op so it removes the stress slightly...as will shopping of course

I shouldn't have the "boxing glove" dressing on by that point either (I am curious as to how much of a boxing glove it will look - I will get piccies!!).

I'm happy I found out before the weekend too. I intend to enjoy the weather tomorrow with schooling Kia and lazing with Bailey, Tippy & Harry before toddling off to watch the rugby

Really pleased for you. I know you havnt got the job (yet!) but that is really positive news and you should be v pleased with yourself! Good luck with the 3rd interview. What a marathon!
 
Well done, thats great news! You must have put up a really strong performance to get through to the final two!

Good plan on getting some new outfit, anything that makes you feel more confident. Can you find out anything about the Commercial Director before you meet, maybe google his name, see if there is a cv on the company website about him. Nothing men like more than to talk about themselves ha ha
 
Agree with Oldmare about both the outfit and the Commercial Director. I once got a job where I was the only candidate with nil experince purely on the fact I was keen - I was the only one to have obtained a copy of the company brochure (brought it to interview and I had clearly read it) and I had asked a lot of questions about the company rather than a few lame ones about the job package when they asked me 'is there anything you'd like to ask us?', and I was enthusastic about the job - was for a sales role.

Also make sure you ask the killer question at the end:

"Based on what you've heard from me today, do you have any reservations about taking me on?"

it's worked every time for me because it gives you a last chance to cover anything you might have missed, and it shows you've got the confidence in yourself! I found it a really hard thing to say at first but it really does help in the closing minutes. Good luck!
 
Well done on getting so far! In the job I do it is not unusual to have at least 3 different interviews including an assessment centre/day (my record is 7 interviews for one job!). Totally agree with what others have said - do lots of research on company and job - if necessary write down a list of questions you want answers to and take it with you to check you have covered everything (it goes down very well) and don't worry if you have already asked the questions or been given the answer - the MD won't know what has already been said by anyone. For your outfit I would recommend a very business like outfit - regardless what the job is and what you would normally wear to do it. You are meeting the MD and he will be in a suit and tie so will expect a 'business' attitude from you. If you are a girl wear a skirt suit with tights and heels (even if they are small heels) and discreet make up. In my job over the years we have had loads of different consultants coach us on interviews etc - the most important thing to remember is first impressions count!! Will shut up now and drink more wine....Good luck and fingers crossed for getting the job!!
