Took Muppet to the vets today, she is sound on the straight and on a soft circle, but is lame on her fractured foot on a hard circle, 1/10th. She was x rayed and there was no change from the last one in May, you can still see the fracture which hasn't quite healed and the vet thinks that it is as far as it is going to. He doesn't think that we should stop doing what we are doing, just be careful of the ground, ie minimal trotting, cantering etc on hard ground, preferably only on soft grass or surface. She has also got to have pads on. There isn't any point medicating as the fracture is not in a joint, it is on the wing of the pedal bone.

So, not disasterous, but I really was hoping that I was mistaken and that she was sound. Just keeping fingers crossed that she doesn't get any worse.

Thank you for all the input, it was much appreciated

I wonder? would turning her out for 6 months or so help?If the ground becomes hard and frosty then bring her in to a softer surface eg menge or woodchip area. Are you feeding something like TopSpec or LoCal to ensure she gets all the necessary vits and mins to aid healing? Just an idea.

What a good Mum you are, I think a lot of owners wouldn't have spotted the lameness so well done.
It's great the vets have given you the all clear to carry on, I'm glad as she didn't look unhappy or uncomfortable in the video.
Pads can make a real difference. Jesper used to have them as he has low lying pedal bones which are prone to concussion. Without them he was constantly lame but within days of having them in he was sound. Not the cheapest but definitely IMO a wonderful invention. I hope they work as well for your girl.

Thanks for the help everyone, it is much appreciated!

Marchtime - were the pads you used over the whole foot?

TayloredEquestrian - I had looked into hydrotherapy but was told it wouldn't be very effective for damage in the feet - I will look again though

zsmm4 - I had thought about turning her out, but the vet doesn't think that it will make any difference, and that you almost want her to 'use' the foot to keep inflammation going and increase likelihood of healing
