Some of you have been asking after Kit (thank you
) so I thought I would post an update. I have lost track of the days now but she has been getting better and better each day. She was sound after about three days with the frog supports taped to her feet, then the left one (the not-so-bad foot) fell off (not the foot, the pad!
) and she was still sound. We took the right pad of tonight and she looks great. She has been allowed out for 5-10 minutes per day on the teeny tiny bare patch that has been eaten down for her. Her owner told me this evening that she was shocked that Kit would have to stay in for at least 10 more days... I told her I was shocked the vet was letting her out so soon! Poor J has learnt a hell of a lot over the last few days, not a nice way to learn it but at least she listened eventually and did the right thing. She appreciates how lucky she is that Kit is still with us.
Berlin has finally gone onto a restricted diet too, which I suppose is a plus of Kit's lami as N was shocked into doing something about her obese horse. I am going to start riding him again now my workload has decreased so hopefully he should get a bit slimmer.
Maiden on the other hand has been more sound over the last week than I have ever seen her (I have owned her for two years as of next month). Imagine my horror when I made my routine check of her legs this evening, they have all been stone cold for a week (the best they have been since Feb '07) and now her front left pastern and foot are very warm and the right hind foot is slightly warm. She looked off on the turn yesterday but I thought nothing of it, not wanting to be paranoid, but tonight she's coming up short in front on the straight too and I think she has been banging her door and scraping the ground with her "bad" leg
I gave her some bute and turned her out, fingers crossed and it may have gone by the morning. Damned horse!! I am pleased though as she has lost weight since Thursday!
So mostly good news
