The xrays are back and it isnt good. She has sever arthritus in one hip and moderate arthritus in the other. She is to continue on the injections for another 3 weeks to see if there is any improvement otherwise it will be long term Rimadyl.
I'm gutted. I had so much planned for us - Ive juut taken up hiking/backpacking and she was going to be my companion. Now she is limited to walks on the lead only for short spells. How do you tell a collie x she is'nt allowed to run anymore?
After loosing Royale to arthritus in July I had finally started to get things back together and was so looking forward to backpacking with my dog - shes loves walking and camping its her favourite thing ever. My poor baby.

Sorry to hear that, I guess you'll just have to do the best for her, but it is disappointing when you want to do fell walks etc.

I have started using Pernamax Equine for my horse which has been amazing for her arthritis, and they do a Canine supplement which I thought you might like to look at:

(P.S. Another poster got flamed for endorsing this product so highly, which I thought was unfair as if something works, these forums are to get the word out. I have no connection to the company and I'm not on commission!!)

Oh I am so sorry, not a nice diagnosis, and I am sure you are gutted especially with the hill walks & hikes. We have had to watch our dog deteriorate over the last 3 years from a bouncing running ahead happy dog to one who won't leave the caravan when we were away on trips as I think she knew it would hurt.

I can only suggest you follow vet guidelines with regards medication, supplements etc. There is one other thing you could try, a hip brace, see link.. http://www.handicappedpets.com/brace/ not sure if available here but common in the states. Once all the medication is stabilised it is something you could perhaps look into, I am sure you are scanning the interenet everyday for help as I know I would be. There will be something out there that will bring a smile on both you and your dogs face.

You have the diagnosis, once that sinks in, with the right medication & assistance you will be able to manage the disease and quite possably slow down the progression. Your dog is very lucky to have such a caring owner, and I know you will try your very best for her. Lots of {{{{{HUGS}}}}} to her..

Thank you very much for that link. I've never seen anything like it. I've seen all the wheeled contraptions but TBH I'm not sure I agree with those. This brace certainly looks like something I shall be investigating more. I am back at the vets on friday for her next injection so I shall print it off and get his thoughts.
Thank you so very much.
