Hi, yes it's to do with the stifle. There are so many issues around the stifle all stemming from the OCD really. I am just thinking that even with the prospect that in 6 months he could be a light hack and the pain could be managed, what the hell is the point? I just don't want an animal in pain.

I am so very sorry, have followed your posts and really hoped for a good outcome for you.
Only you can know what to do next, huge hugs for you.

What a horrible situation to be facing. I guess you have to see it out for now. But at the end of the day is any money going to replace him? If you decide to call it a day and the insurance doesnt pay then at least you have done the best by him. I always think if i can put my hand on my heart and say i made the right decision then the money is irrelevant really.

It is a [****] situation to be in.

Just wondering if you had any further news as a result of the op yesterday.....poor Lanky I really feel for you. Had me in floods reading these posts . Did a search under OCD to see what I am potentially dealing with as my 4 yr old mare is off to the vet tomm to be x-rayed. They are thinking OCD is a big possibility.

Thanks all.

He is not allowed home til tomorrow. He isn't fairing too well really. He's healthy enough but he's got his head down and is very subdued - to be expected I think after a GA. The wound is doing well, though.

I get to collect him tomorrow night, and then the fun begins with the insurer.

We still haven't decided what we will do. I think we will see whether the insurer will accept the vet bill claim first, and go from there.

Really sorry to hear this. I know exactly what you are going though as almost same thing happened to me last year. Luckily for me my insurers were brilliant and although the vet wanted to try they said they were pretty sure she would never come sound again but they could try.... - she was a bright young 5yr old and it was just not fair on her to even try as the treatment was painful and intrusive...
So, even tho i didnt have loss of use the insurance co agreed it was hopeless to even try so we did the right thing for my girl and had her PTS and agreed an out of policy payout.
It is a very hard and painful decision and it help if your insurance company is behind you! Sometime they make me angry!
I hope they support you in whatever you decide.
Keep your chin up - it is really hard but you will get through it.
xx
