Took my foal in to the equine hospital and the vet wasn't too worried. He x-rayed and scanned it and examined the wound as well as doing a tap. Turns out it was just a lot of serous fluid from the swelling and not joint fluid after all. Thank god! So he has antibiotics and Flamazine for the wound. He is virtually sound today. Sooo relieved. And can I just add that if it hadn't looked so trivial in the first place, I would have called the vet in right away. He wasn't even lame for a start, let alone leaking anything suspicious looking. Thanks to those who let me know their experiences. x

That's such a relief, I was wondering how he was. Poor you ,you must have had a sleepless night after hearing all our horror stories!

Definately better to be safe than sorry. And yes, i'm very relieved! He was such a star to so I suppose the whole experience has helped his education!

Sorry missed this before I posted on your other thread!

So glad for you and your boy!

You have been lucky and I really am happy about that, but please be aware that sometime the most innocuous wounds can be very much more serious, particularly a puncture wound near a joint which requires an immediate vet visit.

Here's to a speedy recovery for your lad.
