Stayed with her all last night and today, just down in the house to sort a few things out.

Well vet came out this morning and gave her 2 more injections. She was up and about, was eating a little amount and was on her feet.

This afternoon she seemed to be breathing faster again and lying down loads. Called the vet again who came out and syringed some bute into her and checked her over. He cant find out what is the cause of it. Told him shes not passing anything and is now totally off her food.

She perked up a little after the bute, i dread to think shes in pain. Vet is coming back in the morning to check on her. He loves the wee foal, but is so shocked with the size of her.

Told darren, claire and jade the name of the foal (Jacada) and why. They are really chuffed.

Everyone that knows Mia is really worried about her, shes such an affectionate wee thing (only 12.3hh) and i hate seeing her like this.

Staying with her again tonight, and will do every night until shes looking better.

Sounds very similar to my horse a couple of years ago. He stopped eating and drinking and passed no droppings. Vets perplexed and tried all sorts with him to no avail, In the end one brilliant young girl suggested taking a fluid sample from his stomach which she then rushed to Leahurst (it was Christmas Eve). It showed possible Salmonella! We changed the antibiotics he was on and he started to pick up almost immediately. Suggest that to your vet maybe?

Thanks hadleigh. Ive noticed that shes really unwell after she comes from the field. Vet suggested letting her out for an hour to see if she would munch some grass.

The field is fine as ive had other horses in it and they have come in grand (she was out with my other mare and foal).

Hated leaving her tonight, but heading back up again soon.

Im so so so worried im going to lose her!!

I was exactly the same. He was so obviously poorly and it went on for about a week. I spent all night with him and every day. Lost a stone in a week!!! He would chew on grass a little bit but not very interested. I was convinced he was dying. It was almost colic type symptoms and I had the vet out at least twice a day, often at 2 in the morning!! Painkillers helped ease him so it maybe your girlie has something similar. Hope she feels better soon. Definitely mention it to your vet.

Vet and me are worried that if she doesnt eat more that her milk will dry up. Vet gave her an enema and said if she had a hole in her womb that the water wouldnt come back out again.

Shes not kicking her tummy, she just wants to lie down all the time. Shes not sweating up but her temperature was 104-105oF. She refuses her hard feed but will eat a little haylage. Ive covered her auto drinker and put in a large dish of water instead to see what shes drinking (not a big deal)

Yep sounds exactly the same. Hads had a temperature also. He was lethargic and just stood looking miserable all the time. The more you say the more I think it's what Haddy had. To this day I do not know how he got it. He grazed the same fields all the others are in and they were fine. Try not to worry too much although it's hard I know. Hadleigh survived and he was 26 at the time. We had to tube Hads to get fluids into him. But as I said once they changed the treatment he picked up straight away. I was so relieved. Keep me updated.

I have no idea!! A farmer rang me to say how was the horse (Nice of him eh) and he said that cows get it all the time. Just in the wrong place at the wrong time I guess.
