So we went to view the other yard today:)

It's very busy and everyone seems friendly. The horses are calm but inquisitive, and look healthy. The facilities are reasonable; large indoor school, large outdoor sand school, covered walker, and lunge pen. Excellent hacking too, which is always a bonus.

One or two of the buildings are a bit shabby, but there's no mould or dangerous stuff. The stables are clean and airy, with working automatic drinkers. Food is stored behind locked gates, and tack areas are secure - although one has a leaky roof. The YO was very welcoming and more than happy to talk about all aspects of the yard. He also offers lessons.

Where we are at the moment is pristine, and has year round turnout, but TBH the fields are barely passable at the moment, especially around the gates. Turnout at the new yard is restricted - as in there are paddocks available but not 24/7. Maximum of three horses per paddock and you book it with the YO first so that everyone gets fair access.

It's also nice that there will be people about most of the day - current yard is kind of isolated at times. This is awkward since I am epileptic and my OH can't leave me at the yard on my own. Also, there's no public transport to our current yard. The new yard is close to a bus route if need be. Handy for those days when the car has to be in for a service, etc!

Really good part: Aside from the fact that our journey time there will be cut from an hour to twenty minutes, we will also be saving about £50 a month in stabling costs:D So extra money for the emergency fund, always a good thing.

Now I just need to talk to our current YO and let them know. I'm going to buy them a thank you present, but this other yard is simply more practical for us, and lets us spend more time with horse too.

Oreos if you want them...or Jaffa cakes!

Sounds great I must say. Good luck!

Made me giggle though - your reasonable is my if only, deep sigh ....... toddles off to look at wonderful yards that are just that bit too far away ..... and a pristine yard without leaking everything, more health and safety breaches than a seive has holes and an indoor thats not booked by external clients from 7pm every night!

Sorry; yes the facilities are perfect I meant they are in reasonable condition! It's a busy, and therefore well used sort of place, but nothing is broken, etc.

I have seen a few scary places along the way, so am very happy. It's hard moving though since we will miss the people where we are. Hoping to keep in touch with them.
