Thought I'd post an update on the resident Mr Nappy Pants. Seemingly things have clicked into place. We've turned a huge corner and theres been no rearing and being a twit for just over a week now. It all started when we went out on the longreins, had a minor spaz attack at the corner and carried on. Then we got hit by a hailstorm. A hailstorm! brilliant. Wet through in 10 seconds flat and feeling like we'd both been drowned. So we turned around and went home. Since then we've left the yard a few times no bother, passed other horses and generally been a model of good behavior. So I decided it was time to go back to ridden work. He was responsive, wasn't backing off or planting and had actual steering. 
Yesterday we went out for a hack. We stopped and looked at a couple things but went passed the other horses without turning inside out and got home in one piece.
Till we met the tractor just down from the yard. That triggered a genuine fear melt down bless him. Got off an walked him passed at a high stepping snorting trot my D stallion would be proud of. Back to the yard where he stood and turned out like a pro. He is however going home regardless. Partially due to their lack of funds and partially due to the fact they scheduled a natural horsemanship lady to come to the yard while I and the owner are not around without checking it was ok first. The YO is a very private person and does not like people he doesn't know at his place. It sounds like the horse has been made out to this lady as running up to people and bucking and rearing at them and dangerous around children which isn't true but there we go.
