A quick update for those that remember my dilemma! For those who don't here it is

Well, I took the boy after all your advice, he stayed with his owner until I finished lambing and I collected him on Saturday. I was a bit concerned that he is in fact 18 not 17. He has settled like he has never been away and we have had him hacking and I sat on him myself for the first time last night. My god he is HUGE!
I have to admit I was a bit hard on his abilities before I took him, last night he proved me wrong in only 5 mins riding him. This is a horse who at some point has been well educated. I was trying to only walk him as he is so unfit, he is so responsive and willing it is incredible. I only did a few minutes with him but when I went to trot across the diagonal he launched himself into the most amazing extended trot! He has absolutely no sign of stiffness about him at all. My mare has just gone lame again so I think this lad might be out and about over the summer. If things are too much for him then I have an amazing home lined up.
