Some of you may remember a post I made a while back about having my 3 year old collie castrated, in an effort to calm his aggression towards other dogs.

Well, he still has his wotsits!!! And today we walked along the track and over the railway bridge (his worst area) with another dog, and without any interest at all!!!!

He has made a few new friends over the last couple of months, and has had to sit in the vet's waiting room surrounded by other dogs, due to an eye infection. He still has a few issues if the other dog is on a lead, but off the lead, if they come to see him, he's been very good. I think the 'aggression' is actually fear, made worse by the fact that I would hold the lead tighter, so partly my fault. He still makes a lot of noise if the other dog is not allowed to meet him, but I think we are making a lot of progress. He seems to favour golden labs as friends, they are bigger than him so he's a little more wary, he doesn't like little 'toy' dogs very much, thinks they are cats, but JRs are more than a math for him. We still have a problem with black labs, although todays was one, as he was upset by one as a youngster, which I think is the root of the problem.

We are getting somewhere though!!!!

I'm glad he's getting on ok!

I've always preferred yellow labs to black labs too

Glad to hear it!

I am another who unwittingly assisted my dog to become more aggressive through my own negative behaviour, getting nervous, bringing him in tight, making him stop moving while the other dog was allowed to walk past.

We are also coming along nicely, I have next to binned the prong collar I had to resort to using, and we did some pretty nifty obedience work last Sunday while other dogs were doing agility feet away from him - this time last year I didn't 'exist' to him and he was obsessed with getting to other dogs.

He is still a bit iffy with certain males but with females he is a massive flirt!
