Hi.
Several people asked if I would post updates on my daughter who lost a leg in an accident in 2012. I would post the link to the original post but I don't know how!
Anyway, in March she had a lesson which was her first time back on a horse since her accident and walked, trotted and cantered! The instructor was so pleased with her. He told me that as soon as she got on the horse he could see, just from her seat, that she was going to be fine.
Since then, great strides. She has bought a horse and is riding him! He is young and green and is going to be trained for dressage and to respond to a long whip in the place of her left leg aids. He is ID x TB and stands at 15.3hh at the moment though likely to reach 16hh. He is a complete sweetheart and very calm and steady.
At present she is sticking to walk and trot with him as she doesn't have a specialised riding prosthetic. Her left leg position with her everyday prosthetic is quite out of position but this will be better when she gets a purpose-made one. She manages to mount on her own from a mounting block but mounting from the right hand side. She is fine dismounting too.
So pleased with her and him and life in general
