My old dog is still alive and kicking (I was thinking it might be time to say goodbye). He has been given Previcox by the vet and just to let me know its the right decision Basil escaped on Sunday morning down the road at a full pelt! Can't believe the tablets have worked that quickly.

The only downside to this is they come to £50 for 1 months supply.

I was telling my friend this and she told me that vets are able to give you prescriptions for medication and that you can buy your medicine anywhere. So looked up Previcox on internet and a site can provide me with the same stuff for £16.33 including vat and P&P with next day delivery usually available.

Apparently vets don't like giving you prescriptions but you are well within your rights to ask for one if the vet wants the dog to have that medication.

The mark up on medication seems extortionate (sp) I love my animals and would do anything for them but at £50 a month I will struggle to keep it up. I am going to ask for a prescription so I can buy it on the internet. I will of course go for regular check ups to ensure he is on the right strength etc.

So he is going to be with us for a little while longer!!! Yipee.

Previcox is an anti-inflammatory.

The vet said it would help with his arthritis and make him more comfortable so should make him a lot happier to continue with his life without pain but will need to be kept under review.

I get my dogs and the nags bute (she has 3 a day, long story) from an online store. Both my dogs vet and the nags wrote me out prescriptions with no problems at all. I save a fortune each month just make sure they are the same dosage but otherwise its easy to do. If you need any other info just pm me.
