Farrier came today to do her trim, he didn't think xrays where too bad, said he's seen far worse. He trimmed all her feet and said she'll definately need shoes on before she starts being walked out but he didn't feel she'd need heartbars just normal shoes. Anyway i'm to call him once she's off the bute or he'll come back to trim them again in four weeks whichever is sooner.

She's totally sound in stable now even on turns so i've cut bute down to half, fingers crossed she'll be fine tomorrow!!! I've started giving her formula4feet - not impressed with it (my horse not me) but she'd eaten it by this morning!! Also swapped her onto hifi lite instead of happyhoof xxxxx

Oh that sounds like good news

I have not read all your posts, so am not fully up to date ..... however, from my own experience, I kept off having shoes 'nailed' on for months ... and started walking out with sterofoam stapped to his feet, if I recall rightly and then moved to 'stick' on shoes and eventually back to normal centre fit Natural Balance shoes ..... what shoes has your Farrier suggested?

It was my choice not to have shoes nailed on, as I really could not cope with that until I was ready and felt that I knew my horse well enough to make that decision and the Farrier was happy with this

Well, this is good news - but don't be lulled into any false sense of security. Remember - sound for two weeks instable on no bute then sound for a month on tarmac without bute before any sort of exercise can be contemplated.

I would also be very wary of introducing grass until the coast is totally clear. Very pleased to read of the improvement but it is a long and uncertain path you are treading. You can't play it too safe.................

Thats great news, but please take it slowly. From your posts it look like she was only diagnosed end of June ish, is that correct?
If thats the case then you will probably have a long way to go yet. My mare went down with it end of May and is still very slightly lame in trot without bute.
I know its very frustrating, please feel free to PM me if you need any advice.
Good luck x

I can sympathise, mine got it at the end of Febuary, had heart bars on 3 weeks ago and only started to walk out on the roads last week. Just take it slow - hope she stays sound, good luck.

Im so glad she is making progress. Its a long haul to recovery, but Im so glad that the x rays didnt look too bad
