Just to update all you kind folk who replied to my panicked post last week; my horse went down to Dick Vet early last week and had keyhole surgery. He has basically got a big hole right in the core of his deep digital flexor, which apparently is very rare (Dick Vet only seen 1 other with it). They feared the injury had extended out to the edge (sorry, I'm not good with the vet speak!) but luckily when they went in to look it hadn't. So they tidied up the torn tendon ends and injected it with plasma stuff. That was Wednesday, he then colic'd a bit on Thursday which was rather worrying but came right so we picked him up yesterday and he's now home where he should be
He has a very large bandage on, stitches due out next week then am to start walking him out in hand for set periods, otherwise he's box rested for the next 3 months until he's rescanned and we see whats happened.
He still only has a 50% chance of coming back into work and even then the vets wont say to what degree (he was at 1* level and 1.20m BSJA), I guess because its so rare they dont really know
Its just so sad because this horse is very active, he adores going out eventing. Already he's fed up of being in the stable and at the end of it his career could still be over
He'd hate to be a field ornament.
