A quick update on Hooch.....(you may recall my post on Sunday night,,,,Today I reached utter despair with my mare)

A super Chiro came yesterday morning, she massaged my mare all over and discovered serious discomfort in the muscle in her near side shoulder which extend to the side of her belly (where the riders leg would go). There was also pain in her lower neck.

Hoochy was giving it some good old biting and kicking when she found the pain but soon chilled as she thoroughly massaged the area.

The Chiro thought the pain in the shoulder would hurt alot more going down hill....so she has suggested we stick to riding on the flat for a few weeks (near impossible where I live!) and has showed me how to massage the area and then she'll come back in a few weeks.

At the end of the massage Hooch was putty in her hands with her head in her lap having her ears tickled! It was nice to see.

I think i'm going to get my saddler to come out and check the fit of the saddle too.

Poor girly.....fingers crossed she'll respond well to the treatment we have planned for her.

Hopefully that has got to the bottom of it, it is always reassuring to know that there is a reason and what that reason is, even if fixing it is a bit of a nuisance.

Maybe, if you are having to hack out, you can get off and lead for some of the downhill sections

You must be commended on this you know, for asking for advice and acting on it.

So glad you have found the problem (though obviously sorry your horse has been in pain), and when she has recovered, she will feel like a different horse!

Ah bless her, at least you know now that she was doing it for a reason and not being a baggage!
They'll be some reason why she is sore in that area she might be trying to compensate for something, I think your doing the right thing getting a second opinion on the saddle.
Hopefully when your chiro comes back out she'll be much better and this little saga will be over. If not you may have to think about getting the vet to check her out.
Well done for listening and getting it sorted, shes lucky to have an owner like you. Hope shes all better soon!
