well the deed was done last week. it looked awful when i saw her - really really swollen. But its now going down and doesnt look nearly as bad! She was allowed out in the field after three days and is now happily grazing all day with her little shetland freind. BUT oh my! it has been difficult for me to adapt. She is fine and has only banged herself a few times - but i keep forgetting and getting in a muddle - once getting myself knocked over! she is so laid back by it all I just completly forget that she cant see on one side.
I am allowed to ride her soon - cant wait! i just hope she is as laid back ridden as she is on the ground and doest spook too much.

sounds like a success! There is a one eyes horse who competes at our local show and always does really well so they obviously adapt fine

A friend of mine's horse (stable mate of my lad) had his eye removed last year. It was a fantastic success and the horse is doing fantastically well. They hunted all season and he hacks out both alone and in company with no problems whatsoever.

At first he was a bit unsure if anyone came up on his blind side, now he copes really well and they are pleased they went for it. He is 18 and they are not sure how he would react.

Hope your mare continues to improve.
